The move from domain-oriented system architecture to new zonal architectures is fuelling the change from legacy networking technologies to Ethernet.
Ethernet, by nature, is a packet-oriented and non-deterministic technology, which is suitable where data packets of any size are required to be transmitted, one after the other. However, in applications that require continuous transmission and possibly even synchronous streaming data such as audio and video, Ethernet is not the ideal solution.
